Blood is carried through two types of blood vessels in the body: arteries and veins. Oxygenated blood is carried in arteries to the rest of the body from the heart. Then, the blood is transported through veins back to the heart so that it can receive more oxygen.

Blood contains vital substances that are necessary for numerous processes that occur in a person's body.  In addition, there are also many diseases and disorders that can arise in a person's blood.

To understand all of this information in detail, explore the pages under this section: "Components of Blood", "Physiology of Blood", "Blood Production and Distribution", "Blood Disorders", and "Clinical Applications".

Blood

Blood can be described in three simple phrases:  Fluid of Life, Fluid of Growth, and Fluid of Health.  In other words, without blood, humans would weaken and die.  We need blood to survive!
